UK Today News: BP Gulf Coast Oil Spill 2010 – Saw Stuck In Pipe As BP Attempts Capping Procedure
BP Gulf Coast Oil Spill 2010 – BP’s efforts to stop USA’s worst ever oil spill suffered yet another setback on Wednesday after the diamond-edged saw got stuck in a thick pipe of the undersea well in the Gulf of Mexico.
Reports say that Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen revealed that the current goal was to free the saw and finish the work of cutting through the pipe later in the day.
Thad Allen said: “I don’t think the issue is whether or not we can make the second cut. It’s about how fine we can make it, how smooth we can make it.”
This attempt to “contain” the oil spill comes a few days after BP’s unsuccessful Top Kill plan. If all goes well, then the crew will attempt to place a cap on top of the well once the cut has been made. It is reported that this new procedure could even temporarily increase the flow of oil by atleast 20 percent, but BP is still unsure of the results.
The Gulf coast oil spill is currently in it’s 44th day and has already seen thousands of gallons of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico every day — ever since the April 20 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion which killed 11 workers.
